Question by Special Kay: Which program is better and designing and creating an online magazine? Joomla or WordPress?
I have had an online magazine for 3 years, and we are looking to spice up the website. We’ve used Joomla, but are now looking for something new. Is WordPress better than Joomla? We will be adding content rich items on the site: videos, etc. Any suggestions?
Answer by WebbieMan
I don’t have much experience with Joomla (although I’ve dabbled a bit with it), but here is what I have seen with WordPress.
There are lots of WP magazine themes and if you pay you get very beautiful looking themes. There are tons of magazine websites that use WordPress. Adding rich content like videos etc is never a problem with WordPress because there are so many plugins available that if you spend just a little bit of time searching the plugin index (or asking in the forum), you can get a plugin that would serve your exact needs.
Overall, I’ve had fellow developers say WP is easier to maintain compared to Joomla ones. It’s also much easier to maintain.
Hope this helps.

Question by Tonya Mershon: Do you have any idea about magazine style wordpress themes?
I have been planning to create a blog on wordpress and my friend suggested and showed me a magazine style theme that looks so good. I envy what she is using so I don’t want to ask her personally where she gets it, and I just want to surprise her that I can look for a better looking theme than hers. Please help.
Answer by srinvas
WordPress does have many magazine/news themes offered by individual theme designers and theme clubs. Of all the design platforms, WP is the most suitable and flexible platform for news sites as it uses posts as a basic element. I would suggest that you have a look at wordpressthemes.co where you can choose to read a review by category/color/features etc.

Question by Ess: I want to start a blog WordPress magazine, and I can’t find any tutorials for specifically that! Can anyone?
point me in the right direction? I want to use wordpress and create a magazine style layout with content management system. I have a domain name and I have hosting, but I can’t find anywhere online on how to set it up. I have a free wordpress blog, but that has nothing to do with a magazine style layout where I have about 4-5 different columns, right?
Answer by Windowphobe
Well, there are several four-column WordPress themes, though you’ll have to check to see if you can actually use them on one of the free blogs.
